NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 3 – As of June 30, 2024, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) received 8 million tax returns, exceeding its target by 26%, President William Ruto revealed during the Taxpayers’ Day awards on Friday.
President Ruto commended Dr. Lillian Nyawanda, Commissioner of Customs and Border Control, and Mrs. Risper Muthoni Simiyu, Commissioner of Domestic Taxes, for surpassing tax collection targets by 102 percent and 105 percent, respectively. He attributed this success to Kenyans fulfilling their “patriotic duty.”
“Tax compliance not only fulfills a civic duty but demonstrates our commitment to national transformation through infrastructure, services, and wealth creation,” Ruto said.
The president emphasized a strong stance against tax evasion and corruption, urging citizens to uphold integrity to strengthen public service delivery and infrastructure development.
At the event, Ruto also launched KRA’s Ninth Corporate Plan and the Gava Connect API platform, both aimed at improving efficiency, service delivery, and compliance through digital optimization.
“I reaffirm my responsibility to ensure that no funds entrusted to the government will be lost,” he concluded.
