MT.ELGON, Kenya, May 15 – The Aga Khan Health Service has opened a medical facility in Kimilili, Bungoma County, as demand for healthcare services grows.
The facility, located along Posta Street next to Phim Kindergarten primary school, was opened on Saturday.
Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu marketing officer Maureen Khamala said that the decision was taken on the realization that most of their clients travel all the way to Kisumu and Eldoret in search of medical services.
“Our intention is to bring services closer to the people to reduce costs and traveling long distances,” she said.
Khamala said that the facility will prioritize the improvement of public health systems through partnerships.
She said that the vision of Aga Khan Health Services is to create efficient and appropriate health systems that improve the health of individuals and populations in the low and middle classes.
The marketing officer further said that the Aga Khan Hospital will also train and continue educating nurses, doctors, and other health professionals.
She further noted that services currently available include general medication, nursing services, laboratory services, pharmacy, and a mother and child health clinic.
Khamala said the facility will be operational Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., while on Saturday it will open between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and close on Sundays and public holidays.
