NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 6 – Airtel Africa has unveiled a new data centre called ‘Nxtra by Airtel’ amid growing demand.
Through this, it plans to build one of the largest networks of data centers in Africa’s major cities.
Its CEO, Segun Ogunsanya, said that the platform will propel the continent’s digitization agenda.
“A rapid increase in data centre capacity is needed to support the growth potential of Africa’s digital economy,” Ogunsanya said.
“We’re proud to drive the future of Africa’s digital infrastructure, unlocking opportunities for businesses to grow and fuelling economic prosperity,” he added.
The telco adds that ‘Nxtra’ will be available to enterprises in Africa that will house the next generation of computing.
Yashnath Issur, the former head of Global Data Centre Portfolio Management at Amazon Web Services, has been picked to spearhead the project.
He boasts a 16-year experience in the industry and has, over the past year, built a team of experts to execute on the strategy.
