This past Saturday afternoon, fashion and whisky enthusiasts, all elegantly dressed in white, gathered at Kwetu by Hilton, Nairobi, for a sophisticated celebration hosted by Sao Sartorial- a Made to Measure (MTM) and Be-Spoke Tailor. The event, curated by Sydney Owino, the creative force behind the brand, marked a milestone for the bespoke tailoring house and offered guests an unforgettable experience—a harmonious blend of whisky tasting and an exclusive showcase of their collection.
The afternoon featured an enlightening Glenfiddich whisky tasting session, led by none other than Glenfiddich’s National Brand Ambassador, Mulunda Kombo. Guests were taken through the intricate process of whisky pairing, learning to appreciate the subtle nuances of each pour, which perfectly complemented the elegant atmosphere of the all-white affair. Kombo’s expertise transformed the tasting into a sensory journey, enhancing the event’s luxurious and intimate feel.
Sao Sartorial, founded in 2017 by Owino, has become a name synonymous with precision and impeccable craftsmanship. Owino, who initially studied Geology at the University of Nairobi, later pursued his passion for fashion in New York, where he spent seven years mastering the art of tailoring. “I didn’t want to rush the process. I wanted to understand every technical aspect—what it takes to transform fabric from Kenyatta Market into the finished product that clients wear with pride,” Owino explains.
The event was not just a celebration of Sao Sartorial’s evolution but also a testament to Owino’s dedication to his craft. With whisky in hand and stunning fashion on display, guests reveled in an atmosphere that effortlessly married sophistication with style—a perfect reflection of the brand’s ethos.
