NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 21- The Secretary General for the Central Organization of Trade Unions Francis Atwoli has been re-elected Vice President of International Trade Union Confederation for a fourth time.
Atwoli was elected during the ongoing fifth congress in Melbourne Australia, after his name was proposed on the floor of over 2000 delegates who approved him to serve for a fourth term.
The International Trade Union Confederation is recognized as the largest trade union organization in the world, with estimated membership of over 200 million drawn from 163 countries, and has its headquarters in Brussels Belgium.
“The COTU SG Francis Atwoli was this morning elected as the fourth Vice President of the International Trade Union Confederation during the ongoing 5th congress in Melbourne Australia,” reads a statement by COTU Deputy SG Benson Okwaro.
In his acceptance speech, Atwoli committed to serve diligently so as to ensure that workers’ rights all over the world are respected.
“I will never let you down, I will stand for your interests and put up my life for you always,” Atwoli stated.
The COTU SG also serves as a member of the ILO Governing body in Geneva, and President of the Organization of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) with headquarters in Accra, Ghana.
The 5th Congress of the ITUC started on Thursday 27th November 2022 and its set to close on Tuesday 22nd, 2022.
