NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 26 – A Chadian who conned Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana of Sh76 million in a fake oil deal has been acquitted.
Abdoulaye Tamba who was charged in 2018 was acquitted due to lack of evidence and failure of the prosecution to produce witnesses substantiating the charge of obtaining money by false pretenses.
The trial Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi however found him guilty of being in possession of fake US dollars and Euros.
The court said the accused had also received money by false pretenses from Makau Muteke.
The prosecution had called seven witnesses during the trial and Mungatana was the first prosecution witness.
The prosecution applied to have a pre-sentencing report prepared and the matter be mentioned on November 9.
