Nairobi, Kenya, Feb 17 – Chinese construction equipment manufacturer LiuGong Machinery has expanded into the East Africa region with a new regional office in Syokimau, Machakos County.
The new facility will serve as the headquarters for LiuGong Machinery East Africa Limited, a subsidiary of the LiuGong Group based in China.
The company manufactures machinery, including excavators, dozers, motor graders, air compressors, forklifts, cranes, concrete mixers, and road rollers.
The company aims to serve the eight-member states of the East African Community (EAC), which collectively boast a GDP of $295 billion and a rapidly growing population of 350 million.
Speaking at the unveiling event, LiuGong Group CEO Guangan Zeng noted that the Hub was not for business purposes only but also to support technology in the country.
“We are not only establishing a hub in Kenya for business purposes, but we are keen to support a robust technology transfer so that Kenya also advances with a critical mass of young, well-trained engineers who will drive the manufacturing sector in the future,” Zeng stated.
He further revealed plans for the company to partner with a Kenyan university to transfer mechanical engineering technology.
“We are bringing to the region the latest equipment in road and dam construction, supported by an after-sales and customer support team,” Zeng said.
The company has pledged to contribute to corporate social responsibility initiatives, including sinking boreholes to combat water scarcity while demonstrating its advanced drilling technology.
“We are ready to sink boreholes as part of our commitment to addressing water shortages,” Zeng added.
East African Legislative Assembly MP Kennedy Musyoka urged the company to consider teaming up with technical and vocational educational training institutions in Kenya.
South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) in Kitui County has expressed interest in partnering with LiuGong to expose its School of Engineering students to innovative technologies in construction and manufacturing.
