NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 9 – Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have made a significant bust, seizing 67 bales of bhang and apprehending two suspects in the Kimbimbi area of Mwea, Kirinyaga County.
The operation, which was led by DCI’s Operations Support detectives, followed intelligence gathering that tracked two vehicles suspected of transporting bhang from Moyale.
“This breakthrough follows an exhaustive intelligence-led pursuit of two vehicles from Moyale by DCI’s Operations Support detectives, resulting in the seizure of 67 bales of bhang and the arrest of two traffickers at Kimbimbi area in Mwea, Kirinyaga County,” the DCI stated Saturday on its X account.
This seizure adds to the growing tally of successful operations against drug trafficking in Kenya. Just last month, authorities confiscated 132 bales of bhang from a truck along the Garissa-Thika Road in Mwingi. In that incident, two suspects were apprehended and subsequently brought to Nairobi for further investigation.
On February 9, 2024, during a separate operation conducted by the DCI, 28 bales of bhang were found concealed on the roof cabin of a lorry that purportedly transported mattresses.
A thorough search revealed a hidden compartment reinforced with strong bolts and rails, where an additional 104 bales were discovered.
The truck driver, Daniel Yohana, and his co-driver, Ismael Wako, were arrested as part of the intelligence-led operation conducted by a joint team of law enforcement agencies.
