NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 16 – Kenya Airways (KQ) has warned passengers of up to four-hour delays for departing flights at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) following disruptions linked to an ongoing aviation workers’ strike.
In a statement, the national carrier said the delays were caused by disruptions in air traffic control operations, leading to a backlog of flights.
KQ advised passengers to expect schedule adjustments and possible delays.
“We sincerely regret the inconvenience and are working closely with the relevant aviation authorities and airport stakeholders to minimise the impact on our customers and maintain safe operations,” the airline said.
“Our teams are doing everything possible to ensure the safety, security, and comfort of our customers, which remains our highest priority.”
Last week, workers under the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) issued a seven-day strike notice, warning of industrial action if the Kenyan Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) failed to address grievances including stalled collective bargaining agreement (CBA) negotiations, poor working conditions and contract conversions.
The notice lapsed on Sunday, triggering a nationwide strike by aviation workers that has disrupted multiple flights.
