NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 14 – Collaborations between state and non-state actors in the ICT sector have been singled out as key factors driving Kenya’s digital transformation.
Speaking during an engagement forum with ICT industry stakeholders, Kenneth Mwige, the Director General of Kenya Vision 2030, stressed the need to raise awareness and adapt e-government services to leverage emerging opportunities in digitalization.
Mwige highlighted the role that innovation is poised to play in shaping Kenya’s socio-economic landscape, emphasizing its potential to drive efficiency and sustainable development across key sectors.
“Digitalization is a key plank of the transformation agenda of the Kenya Kwanza government, we are not going to be left behind as Country. Computing power is becoming more powerful exponentially and this will have profound effect on the globe,” he said.
He stressed that embracing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies is essential for Kenya to remain competitive on the global stage and offer incremental economic growth with a proven impact on reducing unemployment and improving quality of life.
“AI presents unprecedented opportunities for Kenya to unlock new avenues for growth and prosperity,” stated Mwige during his address.
“As we navigate the complexities of the digital age, it is imperative that we adapt to change, fostering strategic partnerships and linkages to ensure the successful implementation of digital initiatives.”
Furthermore, Mwige underscored the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors, academia, and civil society in driving the deployment of e-government and digitalization solutions to address pressing societal challenges.
The Ruwaza forum brought together representatives from the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy, the E-Citizen Secretariat, the Huduma Kenya Secretariat, the ICT Authority, the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA), Konza Technopolis, and universities such as Dedan Kimathi University of Technology and Strathmore University.
Discussions centered on the need for robust infrastructure, investment in digital skills development, and the formulation of inclusive policies to benefit all segments of society.
