NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 8 – A Dutch national has been charged with exposing minors aged between 7-17 years old to obscene images using WhatsApp.
The accused JAN IN’T VELD Alias Dad ok Alias Teacher Jan Alias Mzungu was arrested on Thursday at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) while attempting to take a flight to the Netherlands.
The foreigner was presented before chief magistrate Charity Oluoch and faced 10 counts.
According to the prosecution, the offences were committed on April 2022 and 2nd October 2023.
The prosecution told the court that the foreigner on diverse dates 16th January 2022 and 26th June 2022, the accused received obscene images from minors aged 7 and 10 years on his WhatsApp account.
Prosecuting Counsel Linda Ndamiri strongly opposed the accused from being released on bond saying he is a flight risk.
She said the accused was in the country on a tourist Visa and was nabbed by officers from DCI while leaving the country.
She said that the accused has Fixed abode or known relatives.
The prosecutor further submitted that the offense committed as indicated in the charge sheet are very serious in nature and he can not be entrusted with bond or bail.
The court directed that the accused be remanded at Industrial area prison until 11th December 2023 when the trial Magistrate will give her ruling as to whether the accused should be released on bond or bail.
