NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 4 – The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has initiated an inquiry into bribery allegations against a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officer.
According to EACC, this is after receiving a report on March 14, 2023, which claimed that a waiver processing officer at KRA demanded a benefit of Sh50,000 to write off an erroneous value-added tax penalty of Sh410,000.
Investigations revealed that the officer indeed requested and received Sh40,000 as a financial benefit.
EACC further stated that on November 9, 2023, a report was compiled and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) with recommendations to charge the officer with three counts of receiving a bribe, contrary to Section 6(1)(a) as read with Section 18 of the Bribery Act No. 47 of 2016.
However, on December 28, 2023, the DPP returned the inquiry file with recommendations for further investigations.
