NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 12 – Improved electricity connectivity between 2016 and 2022 has driven a significant increase in ICT gadget ownership in Kenya, according to a report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) and the Communications Authority.
The report reveals that 97.6 percent of households with electricity owned mobile phones, 70.9 percent owned TVs, and 17.6 percent had computers, compared to 88.0 percent, 21.6 percent, and 1.4 percent, respectively, for households without electricity.
Additionally, 34 percent of electrified households reported higher internet usage.
Between 2016 and 2022, mobile phone ownership rose from 74.2 percent to 97.6 percent, while TV ownership increased from 66.6 percent to 70.9 percent. The findings highlight the transformative role of reliable electricity in boosting ICT adoption nationwide.
