NAIROBI, Kenya, July 19 – Equity Group has granted its staff 5 percent of its entire shares valued at Sh10 billion under the Employee Share Ownership Scheme (ESOP).

ESOP seeks to align staff interests with shareholders long-term goals, attract talent from global multinationals, drive performance culture, and be part of attractive variable pay packages through immediate cash bonuses.

β€œThe recognition and reward to staff by the shareholders follows sustained resilience in creation of shareholders’ value over a period of 7 years characterized by a series of challenges including interest capping, the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war and the current macro-economic turbulence marked by sticky and stubborn inflation, high interest rates and volatile exchange rates,” said James Mwangi, Equity Group CEO.

Equity currently operates in Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda, Tanzania, and the DRC, with a commercial representative office in Ethiopia.

It also runs non-banking subsidiaries that provide investment banking, custodial, insurance, philanthropy, consulting, and infrastructure services.
