Feb 2 – Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is set to attend a Sunday service at Almighty God Ministries Shiloh Church in Kiriaini, Murang’a, amid renewed calls from his allies for police to ensure security at the event.
Local leaders supporting Gachagua have urged authorities to deploy sufficient officers to prevent any attempts to disrupt the prayer meeting. Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu called on the youth to maintain peace and resist being used to cause chaos.
Kariara MCA Gichobe Mbatia condemned what he described as a pattern of disruptions targeting Gachagua’s public meetings, insisting that the event will proceed as planned. Speaking to the media, leaders including Kanyenya-ini MCA Grace City and Rwathia MCA Kamau Kagori urged young people to steer clear of political interference, warning that they would be the ones to suffer the consequences.
The leaders also cautioned the police against being used to disrupt peace, particularly in places of worship.
In 2022, a similar incident in Kenol, Murang’a County, turned violent hours before then-Deputy President William Ruto’s visit, forcing police to use tear gas to restore calm. One person was killed, and several others were injured.
