NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 1 – The embassy of Finland has awarded Patricia Kombo, a Kenyan youth climate activist, a Climate Honors diploma.
The founder of Pa Tree Initiative has been granted the award as recognition for her work in advocating for solutions to environmental issues and promoting environmental and climate literacy.
“I dedicate this honour to young people across the world. May it always remind them that they deserve to have climate information. The joy of environmental protection is discovering that climate change is a solvable problem if we act,” said Kombo.
“I want to raise a generation of climate-conscious citizens. A generation that understands that they have a right to a liveable planet and a responsibility to make it liveable,” she added.
Finland has been gearing up for its mission of granting diplomas to organizations and individuals who lead the way in combating climate change.
Using the diploma, Finland encourages discussion concerning climate issues and calls upon international actors working for a common future.
Kai Mykkänen, Finland’s minister for climate and environment, stated that young people’s efforts on the climate agenda should be appreciated for promoting a sustainable environment.
“Young people’s tireless efforts should be recognized and inspire decision-making in global platforms, such as the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA)-6,” Mykkänen said.
“It is our duty to ensure that current and future generations can enjoy their right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment.”
