NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 24 – The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Executive Committee has suspended its President, Hussein Mohammed, over alleged theft of Ksh 42 million from the CHAN bank account.
Also asked to step aside were acting CEO Dennis Gicheru and nominated member Abdulahi Yusuf Ibrahim.
Deputy President MacDonald Mariga was appointed to take over with immediate effect, pending completion of the investigation and forensic audit into the affairs of the FKF.
Nine out of 12 FKF Executive Members signed for his removal, except three: NEC Member Eastern Charles Njoka, Nominated Member Kenneth Rungu, and Ahmed Mohammed Dabar.
“Article 87 of the FKF Constitution mandates the National Executive Committee shall have the power to decide on all cases of force majeure and all matters not provided for in the constitution, such decisions to be made according to right and justice and the doctrine of necessity,” a statement signed by the 12 EXCO Members read.
The members cited that they have been excluded and sidelined from performing their executive roles within FKF as per the federation’s constitution.
Further, the Executive claimed that Hussein breached the Public Procurement and Assets Disposal Act 2015 and the Public Finance Management Act, including non-competitive procurement of goods and services.
Also, Hussein was allegedly accused of a conflict of interest.
The Executive Committee requested the relevant bodies, CAF, FIFA, and the Ministry of Sports, to appoint a reputable independent forensic auditor to audit all the affairs of the FKF, its officials, and all bodies of FKF as pertains to all funds received from each of the respective institutions.
The Exco also stated that all contracts entered into by the FKF should be reviewed by the National Executive Committee.
The development is a twist of events after Hussein led the ouster of CEO Harold Ndege two months ago, accusing the former Kenyan international of incompetence.
