NAIROBI, Kenya, April 1 – Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Alfred Mutua now says that the cost of power will come down after the Kenyan Government signs partnerships in Germany and Belgium.
“After a successful trip by the president to Germany and Belgium, I have today toured the Suswa substation and Olkaria geo-thermal station which are contributing to Kenya’s 92% green energy,” the CS said on his Twitter page.
Mutua further added that the partnership between Kenya and Germany will see further investment, where Kenya will be able to produce green hydrogen and export power.
The cabinet secretary also confirmed that the German government has already funded the project to the tune of 45 million euros, which will see an increase in power generation at the Olkaria 1 geothermal plant.
“As we expand our green energy by building more wind farms, solar power farms and Geothermal we will phase out the use of petroleum-based power generation plants and the cost of power will skyrocket downwards,” he said.
This comes days after President William Ruto visited Germany, where he held bilateral talks with his German counterpart, Olaf Scholz.
“Enhancing the business environment and making it conducive is a top priority because we need investment to create opportunities for our young people,” he tweeted.
“We invite the German private sector to explore many untapped opportunities in Kenya.”
