NAIROBI, Kenya, April 17 – Former board members and employees of Airport Sacco owe the institution Sh49.96 million in unpaid loans, according to a Supervisory Committee report tabled ahead of the Annual General Meeting.

The report shows the former Chief Executive Officer owes Sh27 million, the former chairman Sh2.4 million, and the former treasurer Sh9.3 million, while other former staff owe a combined Sh11.2 million.

None of the officials had begun repaying the loans as of 2025, raising concerns over significant credit risk to the Sacco.

“The Committee observed that repayment performance remains extremely poor, with no recoveries recorded during the year 2025. Currently, the only recovery mechanisms being applied include deductions from dividends,” the report states.

“The Supervisory Committee further noted that the cases relating to the recovery of these loans are at various stages before the Co-operative Tribunal. The continued delay in recovery exposes the Society to significant financial loss and erosion of members’ funds,” it added.

The current Board of Management has been urged to explore legal avenues to recover the funds and provide regular updates to members on progress.

Meanwhile, the committee revealed that loans issued to current board members and staff stood at Sh50 million as of December 31, 2025.

It emphasized that insider lending must comply with regulatory requirements and be issued on terms similar to those offered to ordinary members.
