NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 29 — Gen Francis Ogolla has been sworn in as Kenya’s new Chief of Defence Forces paving way for the retirement of his immediate boss, Gen Robert Kibochi.
Ogolla, who deputized Kibochi as Vice Chief of Defence Forces, held the rank of Lieutenant General until his promotion on Friday to the rank of General following the recommendation of the Defence Council.
He was sworn in at State House Nairobi on Saturday in the presence of President William Ruto who doubles up as the Commander in Chief of the country’s armed forces.
Lt Jonah Mwangi was sworn in as Vice Chief of Defence Forces.
Speaking at the event, President Ruto lauded Gen Kibochi’s contribution towards advancing excellence in Kenya’s military.
He challenged the newly appointed military chief to emulate Gen Kibochi’s example.
