Glovo delivers 135,000 pizzas in Nairobi in 2022

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 10 – Spanish delivery firm Glovo delivered 135,000 pizzas in 12 months to February 2023, highlighting rising popularity of the product in the country.

Data from the food startup shows that over 120,000 pizzas were delivered between February 2022 and February 2023.

The release of the report coincided with the International Pizza Day that was yesterday.

Chicken flavored pizza was the most ordered with 15,960 deliveries followed by Pepperoni and Margarita.

While pork and beef pizzas are popular in Ghana, this is not the case in the country.

“Data shows that Kenyans are big fans of this Italian product and, in this 12-month period, they have ordered more than 135,000 pizzas, which means that Glovo delivered 370 pizzas per day or 15 pizzas per hour in the country,” Glovo said in a statement.

Tuesday boosted the highest pizza consumption at 33 percent followed by Sunday’s 17 percent, attributed to the ‘buy one get one free’ offer where several Glovo partners offer 2×1 deals, making it the perfect day for people to order pizza.

“Glovo has partnered with key pizza outlets to support the growth of the delivery industry. We are seeing more customers opt to make their orders online, as evidenced by the number of pizzas we have delivered in the last 12 months,” said Caroline Mutuku, General Manager of Glovo Kenya.

Nairobi and Mombasa were two top cities with highest pizza consumption.

“This day is all about celebrating the joy of pizza and Glovo has partnered with Pizza Hut, Pizza Mojo, Debonairs, among others to offer 2×1 deals.”
