NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 21 – The High Court has issued conservatory orders stopping the construction of a recreational facility, an ablution block, and the dualling of Kiambu Road affecting Karura Forest, pending a hearing set for February 3, 2025.
Justice Ann Omollo of the Environmental and Land Court directed interested parties to submit relevant evidence within 14 days.
The petition was filed by the Katiba Institute and the Green Belt Movement, challenging the projects over environmental concerns.
The suspension follows a public outcry and action by Environment CS Aden Duale, who halted licenses issued by Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) linked to the developments.
