NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 5 – Huawei Kenya has selected 18 top-performing university students for intensive training ahead of the Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Finals of the Huawei ICT Competition 2024-2025.
The global finals, set for May 2025, will bring together top students from Latin America, Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
The students, who excelled in the national finals, will represent Kenya at the regional showdown and undergo mentorship and hands-on workshops in key ICT areas such as networking, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence.
“These students embody the innovation and determination that will drive Kenya’s digital transformation,” said Michael Kamau, Head of Huawei Kenya’s ICT Academy Program. “We are confident they will make Kenya proud at the regional and global stages.”
The 18 students are from Moi University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Machakos University, the University of Nairobi, Africa Nazarene University, and Mount Kenya University.
The Huawei ICT Competition aims to build a strong ICT talent ecosystem by aligning skills with global industry standards. Top regional performers will advance to the global finals and may access further opportunities, including internships and certifications.
Among Kenya’s national champions is Ifrah Hussein from Moi University, who expressed excitement about the upcoming competition.
“This is a life-changing opportunity to learn from industry leaders and compete with Africa’s best. We’re ready to push our limits,” she said.
Other participants include Banzy Nyaga (JKUAT), Beverlyne Ndombi (Moi University), Wambura Harriet (Machakos University), Alvin Lanton Ng’ang’a (JKUAT), Tony Kipruto Oloibe (University of Nairobi), Karen Juma (Moi University), and several others.
Since 2018, Huawei’s ICT initiatives have trained over 90,000 students across Sub-Saharan Africa, strengthening the region’s digital talent pool.
