NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 29 – Meetings and tours at the iconic Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) were disrupted after management conducted an emergency drill leading to the total evacuation of the 28-storey building.
The exercise kicked off at around 10 am after a cloud of heavy smoke was sighted at the top floors of the landmark skyscraper which hosts several Government offices, including those of Senators.
Witnesses report hearing a fire alarm ring as the members of the public including tourists and participants of various meetings could be seen rushing out of the building using an exit ramp before they gathered at an assembly point.
A security officer told Capital FM news that one person fainted after developing a panic attack during the incident which took place at around 10 O’clock this morning.
The management says the drill was successful citing that 90 percent of the people responded well by evacuating the building.
