NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 17 – The inspection General of Police Japhet Koome and Director of Criminal Investigation Mohamed Amin have been summoned to physically appear in Court Monday over Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s aide abduction.
Justice Chacha Mwita said the two are supposed to show cause why they have not released or arrested the abductors of Osman Ali.
The judge was told by Law Society of Kenya President Eric Theuri lawyers Dancun Okatch and Oringo Waswa that the order issued by the court directing the production of Ali has also not been complied with.
The lawyers submitted that despite the court order having been served upon the IG, DCI, the DPP office of AG no response have been availed to the affected family or to the lawyers representing the the family of the abducted Mr Ali who is an employee of Nairobi county.
They urged the court to issue an order directing the management of Sarit Centre to supply the CCTV footage of 10th November 2023 to the family and the lawyers representing Mr. Ali and to the court.
They said that cases of disappearances is not new in Kenya and police must be serious in carrying investigations of that nature.
They cited a case of the late Willy Kimani who was abducted by police after representing a client at Mavoko law court.
The matter was investigated by police but the abductors were arrested after information was availed from Safaricom and Airtel.
The lawyers urged the court to take the matter very serious given that it now 10days ago since Ali was abducted while he was in the company of his wife who was left at the parking at Sarit Centre.
The judge noted the seriousness of the matter and said that’s why the court has issued the order for senior officers to appear before him to show cause why they have not released or arrested the abductors of Osman Ali.
