NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 14 – The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) says Monday’s quashing of a tender to supply election materials will have serious implications on the August General Election.
IEBC Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba says the ruling by Justice George Odunga means that all the decisions made by the commission in the last three months were in that sense null and void.
“His argument is that there was no Commission once the President declared the positions vacant. So it might as well mean that all decisions made in the last three months were null and void,” Chiloba told Capital FM News.
According to Chiloba, Odunga’s ruling on further interpretation, also means that all other decisions including on by-elections, ballot papers, audit, staffing, registration of voters, ICT and Kenya Integrated Electoral Management System (KIEMS) were also invalid.
“Just finished reading the 145 page judgement by Odunga on the ballot paper contract. Huge implications for next elections! From Oct 6, 2016, Decisions on by-elections, ballot papers, audit, staffing, KIEMS, registration, ICT regulations… all NULL & VOID,” his tweets stated.
