NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 3 – The Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) has asked the government to consider licensed professional engineers to engineering related jobs both in the national and county governments.
The society led by its President Erick Ohaga on Tuesday said this will ensure efficiency in engineering related sectors including road agencies, energy utilities, architecture and water bodies.
“Give engineers who are professionally trained an opportunity to serve professional duties in the government. We can attest that institutions led by engineers have been effective,” Ohanga stated.
At the same time Ohanga pointed out that engaging engineers will reduce the risk of collapsing buildings which he attributed to use of non-professionals in putting up buildings.
“There is need for the general public and real estate developers to engage licensed professional engineers in the design, approval, implementation and supervision of all construction projects,” he stated.
The institution also asked the Government to end the importation of lower cadre engineering labor force so as to allow Kenyan youth graduating from TVET institutions to access employment opportunities.
