NAIROBI, Kenya, April 4 – International Computer Driving License [ICDL] has been recognized as a qualification awarding institution in Kenya by the Kenya National Qualification Authority.
ICDL has also been registered in Kenya National Qualifications Framework [KNQF] which was developed and is now being implemented by the Kenya National Qualifications Authority.
The accreditation means that the authority will recognize qualifications awarded by ICDL in Kenya.
Strathmore University, Kenyatta University, and Kenya College of Accountancy are among ICDL partner institutions.
ICDL Foundation CEO Damien o’ Sullivan, who spoke during a ceremony to award the certificate, called on the adoption of digital skills which he said have proved to be a necessity for every citizen.
“ Our great concern is to get increased focus and investment in digital skills, recognition, and acceptance of the digital skills gap. ICDL provides learners with blended learning and digital skills standards that can be employable in the field of employment,” said Damien.
Juma Mukhwana, Director General Kenya National Qualifications Authority said “Skill development is a continuous process. There is a qualification portal where an organization can check if it’s qualified. There is a need for international skills and standards to be part of the global community market to take young citizens across borders.”
“ ICDL Africa is dedicated to giving global standards. It is providing solutions to what is affecting the industry and humanity at large. It is good that it has been recognized as a qualification awarding institution in Kenya. It will be a thing of the past where there has been a worry of a time where several qualification awarding institutions have been unregulated and not well understood in the qualifications landscape,” Chief Administrative Secretary of ICT, Maureen Mbaka added.
Mbaka asked youths to visit ajira digital to get free upskilling programs on the website and take advantage of the digital space to enhance employability skills to enhance productivity.
“There are various frameworks for safety on cybercrimes. There is also a data protection act and implementation act to report cases of cybercrimes, the government is a strong supporter of a robust ICT sector. Future of the world will be driven by ICT,” Mbaka said.
