NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 2 – Azimio La Umoja – One Kenya Presidential candidate Raila Odinga is leading Deputy President William Ruto in popularity after getting a popularity rating of 47 percent according to a research by IPSOS.
The study placed Ruto’s popularity rating at 41 percent six days to the elections.
“The Ipsos in Kenya poll shows that Mr. Odinga could possibly bridge the 3% + 1 difference to the threshold to win in the first round given there are still 9% undeclared voters (5.1% who refused to disclose, and 3.8% who are undecided. The undeclared voters are mainly older females in rural areas and are likely to be found in Western Kenya and Coast regions,” the organisation’s lead researcher Sam Muthoka stated.
According to the poll, Roots Party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah has a popularity rating of 2.9 percent while David Mwaure had 0.2 percent.
The survey further showed that Odinga would win regardless of how Kenyans vote on election day except in Central Rift, Northern Kenya, and Mt. Kenya regions.
Odinga’s popularity is highest among urbanites by 51 percent, older adults by 50 percent and male voters by 52 percent while Ruto’s popularity is highest in youth by 43 percent and among females by 42 percent.
The poll indicated that Odinga leads in most of the regions¹ of the country while Dr. Ruto has a clear lead only in the Rift Valley and Mt. Kenya regions.
The release of opinion polls is expected to end on Thursday ahead of the elections set for next week.
