On Wednesday, 17 July 2024, H. E. Caitríona Ingoldsby, Ambassador of Ireland to Kenya, hosted a reception to mark the visit of the Tánaiste, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Minister for Defence, Mr. Micheál Martin TD. This significant occasion celebrated the strengthening ties between Ireland and Kenya.
Mr. Micheál Martin TD, who has been on a four-day visit to the Horn of Africa, including Kenya and Ethiopia, delivered a heartfelt speech which highlighted the historical connections between Ireland and Kenya, as well as the shared values and future aspirations of both nations. He also touched upon Ireland’s development assistance program and the growing trade links between the two countries, emphasizing the potential for increased cooperation and expressed optimism for the future of Irish-Kenyan relations.
Ireland and Kenya share a long history of friendship and political cooperation, which began with the establishment of Irish missionary centers in Kenya. This warm relationship has developed over many years of close connections between the countries.
The event held at Trademark Hotel, was well attended by a host of dignitaries, including representatives from both the Irish and Kenyan governments, the diplomatic corps, business leaders, media personalities, community leaders, and members of the Irish community in Kenya. This provided a rich environment for networking and exchanging ideas.
Throughout the afternoon, the Minister engaged in lively conversations with guests, discussing opportunities for collaboration and mutual benefit. Discussions touched on topics such as trade, education, and cultural exchanges, laying the groundwork for future partnerships.
The reception featured a variety of refreshments, including a selection of Irish whiskey and beers, a much-loved tradition by the Irish.
