NAIROBI, Kenya, March 26 – The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has maintained that it is actively addressing the drainage and roof leakages at terminals 1B and 1C of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
This is after videos circulated online of heavy roof leakages at terminal 1C of the airport, following today’s heavy downpour.
In a statement, KAA managing director Henry Ogoye stated that a directive has been issued by transport cabinet secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to repair the affected areas.
“In response to the directive from the CS roads and transport Hon KipchumbA Murkomen, KAA commenced the exercise to address roof leakages at Terminals 1B and 1C of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA),” he stated.
Ogoye attributed the leakages to the heavy rains currently being experienced in Nairobi that have adversely affected the drainage system of the airport.
“Over the last few days, the heavy rainfall in Nairobi has adversely impacted the temporary drainage infrastructure put by the contractor on site, resulting in the current leakages being experienced at the terminal,” he stated.
“This is being mitigated as work progresses and the contractor has been instructed to complete the work on schedule,” he added.
According to the director, construction work to repair the drainage system at the airport has been underway since March and is expected to be completed in the next three months.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience and understanding. KAA remains committed to upholding the highest standards of service,” he stated.
