NAIROBI, Kenya Sept 16 – A man in Kakamega will spend the rest of his life in prison after a court convicted him of defiling a 10-year-old girl.
The conviction was secured by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions following presentation of testimonial and medical evidence.
Prosecution Counsel Stephanie Akinyi told the court that the accused had repeatedly abused the child and intimidated her to prevent her from revealing what had happened.
The abuse was discovered after the child’s mother became suspicious and questioned her, prompting a report to police.
The child was subsequently taken for medical examination, with the prosecution presenting evidence that corroborated her account.
Resident Magistrate D.K. Wambua found the accused guilty of defilement under Section 8(1) as read with Section 8(2) of the Sexual Offences Act.
The court imposed a life sentence after finding that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
The convict has 14 days to lodge an appeal.
