NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 13 – Douglas Kanja has been sworn in as the new Deputy Inspector General of Police.
This comes a day after President William Ruto announced his appointment because he emerged top in interviews conducted by the National Police Service Commission last week.
“I Douglas Kanja Kirocho having been appointed the Deputy Inspector of General police, do swear that I will be faithful, to the constitution of Kenya and the President of Kenya during my service in the Kenya police without favor affection malice or ill will, and that I will at all time do my utmost preserve the peace and to prevent offenses against the peace and I shall continue to hold the said office to the best of my skill and knowledge,” he stated during the occasion.
“‘I will discharge all duties thereof faithfully according to the law and I will subject myself to the constitution, all acts, orders, regulations now or in future in service relating to my service in the Kenya Police service.”
He takes over from immediate from Edward Mbugua who retired from the service.
In a gazette notice dated Wednesday, April 12, President William Ruto appointed the former General Service Unit (GSU) Commandant Kanja as Deputy Inspector-General of the Kenya Police Service.
“Deputy Inspector-General of the Kenya Police Service, with effect from the 12th April, 2023,” the gazette notice read.
Kanja was the commandant, General Service Unit (GSU) from 2018.
Kanja will have the crucial for the command of the National Police Service.
Article 245 of the Constitution provides for two positions of Inspector General to head the Kenya Police Service and the Administration Police Service respectively.
