NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 27 – Kenya and China have jointly committed to respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all nations.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi who is also the Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary, who concluded a three-day visit to the People’s Republic of China this week, along with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, reached a mutual understanding to refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of other countries.
Their discussions also revolved around upholding universal values, including peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy, and freedom as mandated by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for their multilateral mission to Haiti.
During the visit, both nations reaffirmed their commitment to supporting peace-building initiatives in Africa, with Kenya playing a leading role. Mudavadi expressed gratitude for China’s ongoing support for these initiatives.
Mudavadi emphasized that the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the entire Chinese nation, and he stressed the importance of the One-China Principle in governing international relations.
He said the long-term Joint Vision of the Kenya-China strategic partnership, spanning the next 60 years, aimed at further strengthening the bilateral ties between the two nations.
“The joint vision will be founded on building an even closer Kenya-China community with a shared future in this new era,” Mudavadi stated, emphasizing the pillars for implementing this vision.
He disclosed that both nations had agreed to incorporate the joint vision into their respective foreign policies. They plan to establish joint technical teams to work on the various aspects and framework of this vision.
Mudavadi also expressed his appreciation for China’s invaluable support in realizing Kenya’s national development priorities, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, including roads and rail transport, green energy, and information and communication technology (ICT).
The discussions between Mudavadi and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, primarily focused on bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest, as well as the achievements made in the bilateral ties over the past 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kenya and China.
