NAIROBI, Kenya, March 19 – President Mwai Kibaki begun chairing a routine Cabinet meeting on Thursday morning, just two days after he threatened to sack ‘errant’ ministers if they failed to quit voluntarily.
There was no formal statement from the Presidential Press service detailing the agenda of the Cabinet meeting, but sources said it would mainly to focus on the ongoing drought, the financial crisis the country is facing and general development issues.
Insiders said President Kibaki was likely to use the opportunity to emphasise to his ministers stop wrangling in public and instead concentrate on serving Kenyans.
The President broke his silence on persistent squabbling by Cabinet Ministers while on a meet the people tour of Kisii district, when he warned the ministers that they risked being sacked unless they shunned bickering in public.
“If you are a minister and you are dissatisfied with the government you either quit, be quiet or I will show you the door,” he said.
Though he did not mention anyone by name, President Kibaki said he was angered by ministers who have been complaining about the Grand Coalition Government, without offering any solutions.
The Presidents Press Service was due to issue a statement on the outcome of the talks later on Thursday.
