NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 13 – Kenya has missed its allure as top African travel destination, coming at a time when the Country’s tourism arrivals are growing.
Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Egypt are the best destinations in the African continent, according to CNN.
Kenya is known for its tour safaris, white sandy beaches as well as tropical weather that attracts travelers from around the globe annually.
According to the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), arrivals into Kenya grew 74.5 percent to 1,321,887 between January–November 2022, from 870,465 in a similar period in 2021.
“After nearly three years of travel disruptions and complications, many countries have dropped most of their pandemic restrictions,” CNN said.
“People are traveling internationally in large numbers, and there’s plenty of pent-up demand to spread around the world,” it added.
In Africa, Rwanda was voted the best followed by Tanzania, Cairo (Egypt), and Uganda.
“January 2023 sees the official opening of Rwanda’s most exciting hotel yet: Sextantio Rwanda, a collection of traditionally crafted huts on an island on Lake Kivu, one of Africa’s largest lakes,” CNN said in regards to Rwanda.
“Of course, you’ll want to see gorillas. Adjoining Volcanoes National Park, the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund opened the 4,500-square meter Ellen DeGeneres Campus in 2022. Its visitor center includes exhibits, virtual reality gorilla “encounters” and nature trails.”
Globally, Poland is ranked the best then Western Australia, Liverpool (England), Charleston (Carolina), Vilnius (Lithuania) and Fiji.
Others include Manaus (Brazil), Thessaloniki (Greece), Gothenburg (Sweden), Laos and Bogota (Colombia).
