NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 21 – Housing Minister Soita Shitanda was discharged from the Aga Khan hospital on Sunday afternoon after spending a night there for observation after he collapsed in Malava.
His personal assistant Mr Clement Museve told Capital News the minister was allowed to go home at 2.30pm.
"The Minister is okay, he has been discharged. He is already at home," Mr Museve said on telephone and added: "He has been meeting his friends and family members and his condition is now better."
Earlier, Capital News visited the hospital and found Ikolomani MP Bonny Khalwale who said: "He is much better now. I have seen him and we have talked politics and other issues. He is eating well and he is in a jovial mood. Doctors have indicated that his condition is okay and have even recommended that he be discharged."
Dr Khalwale said the minister had experienced difficulties after his sugar levels rose due to his diabetic condition.
Mr Shitanda was flown to Nairobi on Saturday after the incident.
His Personal Assistant told Capital News the Minister was going to preside over a fund-raiser in aid of Musuma Primary school in West Kabras location when he collapsed.
He first received first aid at the Webuye district hospital before he was airlifted to Nairobi for specialised treatment.
This is the second time Mr Shitanda has collapsed in the recent past. In March, the Housing Minister was rushed to the Aga Khan hospital after he collapsed in his vehicle at the parking lot of the United Kenya Club in Nairobi.
"It is the same problem he experienced on Saturday. His sugar levels went up," one of his family members said.
His son Sidney and daughter Shirley were at his bedside on Sunday when Capital News visited him at the Princes Zahra Pavilion ward.
