NAIROBI, Kenya, March 10 – The government has urged Kenyans living in the Diaspora to invest more at home and source for more job opportunities for Kenyans abroad.
Speaking in Dar Es Salaam during a Diaspora Forum and cultural event, the Director of the Liaison & Partnerships Division at the State Department of Diaspora Affairs, Ann Wanjohi, stated that this move would financially empower them.
“I urge you to create investment vehicles that will help you to financially empower yourselves. By building these networks, you create a sense of belonging and solidarity.” she said.
She further urged them to get involved in skills and technology transfer and open up trade routes for Kenyan goods and services in their host countries.
Acknowledging the huge turnout of Kenyans living in Tanzania at the event, the Diaspora department asserted that engagement with diverse state and non-state players will provide structures and systems to support the diaspora in harnessing their immense potential for Kenya’s socio-economic development.
“At the event, themed Forging networks and harnessing the full potential of the Kenya Diaspora in Tanzania, which attracted hundreds of participants including Government officials and the private sector, provided Kenyans living in Tanzania an opportunity to interact with one another, share their challenges, success stories as they got to experience the rich Kenyan culture away from home,” state department of diaspora department stated on X.
