NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 8 – Kisumu All Starlets tactician Juma Said says he has seen more than enough to convince him that his team will soon embark on a winning run despite their 2-1 defeat to Ulinzi Starlets in a Women’s Premier League (WPL) tie on Sunday afternoon.
The Lakeside club are placed 11th on the log with no points after two matches, same as bottom-placed Kayole Starlets.
Said said his girls deserve to be placed higher on the log and expressed confidence that this will become a reality as they continue to work on their weaknesses.
“If you look at our attack, there is more that we can do to improve it. We need to be fearless and dangerous and to fight for every ball. I am happy that the girls are picking up as you can see the game today after the festive period, which has somewhat affected our fitness levels,” Said said.
Kisumu found themselves on the wrong side at Ulinzi Sports Complex as their hosts took the lead, five minutes after the start, through a Everline Juma goal.
Mercy Airo’s goal in the 77th minute seemed to have guaranteed maximum points for James Mwanzia’s side only for Everline Adika to score a sumptuous freekick in the 85th minute, which made for a nervy end to the game for the soldiers.
Said praised the team for not lying low after Ulinzi’s second goal, noting that the girls’ fighting spirit is a positive for the Lakeside team as they prepare for future matches.
“We started quite badly in the first half but the second one was much improved from the girls. It is something to pick on and carry into our next matches,” he said.
In other matches of the weekend, Kayole Starlets slumped to a 2-0 home defeat to Kangemi Ladies as Thika Queens walloped Nakuru City Queens 4-1.
League favourites Vihiga Queens were 3-0 winners over Trans Nzoia Falcons whereas Gaspo Women beat Zetech Sparks 2-0.
Wadadia and Bunyore Starlets played a 1-1 stalemate.
