NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 24 – Controversial businessman Paul Kobia has been ordered to appear in court Monday to answer charges of kidnapping, assault and being disorderly in public.
Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi issued summons requiring Kobia to present himself in court after he failed to show up Friday to plead to the charges.
Lawyer Kiraithe Wandugi told magistrate Andayi that his client was involved in a road accident on Thika Road on Saturday sustaining serious injuries hence the need to go for further examination.
Kobia’s four accomplices – Alvin AnZaya, Nelson Muyi, John Mutwiri and Martin Mwangi – however pleaded not guilty to kidnapping and assaulting a Congolese national, Londole Iseka Blanchard and were released on Sh500,000 cash bail each pending trial.
The businessman was arrested at his home in early March and locked up in Kilimani Police Station over the abduction of Iseka who it was said owed him Sh40 million.
He is also said to have assaulted a man who was treated for head injuries at a city hospital.
