NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 23 – The Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) Ltd has confirmed the appointment of Joe Sang as its new acting managing director (MD).
In a statement, the firm’s Chairperson Faith Boinett said his tenure starts from today.
Sang replaces Samson Macharia Irungu whose three-year term ended this month.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors of Kenya Pipeline Company Ltd, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Joe Kimutai Sang as Acting Managing Director with effect from from 23rd January 2023,” Boinett said on behalf of the Board.
KPC Board failed to renew Irungu’s contract after he exhausted his three-year term.
In a letter, the Board said that Irungu’s contract was terminated after he showed no interest in the post.
His appointment comes after Attorney General Justin Muturi okayed his appointment, arguing that there did not exist any law barring the appointment of acting MD from outside the organization.
“We note that the Circular does not make provision for the course of action in the event that no suitable officer is available from both the agency and the Ministry,” Muturi said in a letter copied to Head Public Service Felix Koskei, Treasury CS Njunguna Ndung’u and Energy and Petroleum CS David Chirchir a few days ago.
Sang holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Strategic Management from the University of Nairobi.
Some of the companies he has worked with before include Unga Limited, National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK), among others.
