NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 24 – The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), in collaboration with the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), has agreed to acquire modern scanners to boost efficiencies at the ports of entries and exits.
This resolution came about after the three institutions held a joint meeting and agreed to acquire the equipment in four weeks.
“This is in line with the directive of his excellency President William Ruto to ensure seamless operations to optimize port performance, enhance trade facilitation, and boost revenue mobilization,” the joint press statement read.
The three institutions have also called out for the immediate integration of their information and technology (IT) systems, which will in turn bolster seamless operations and the execution of a framework for the pre-clearance of cargo at the port.
The corporations have further agreed to develop joint requirements for licensing the container freight stations in two weeks.
They have further agreed to execute a framework in four weeks for the expedition of long-stay containers, as well as the modalities on how to deal with long-stay cargo.
They have further agreed to immediately mend their tax disputes before they become court cases, establish a mechanism to resolve the case amicably out of court, and further reinforce other areas of their collaborations.
“The three(3) corporations to come up with a joint training needs assessment and plan for its board s and management towards ensuring cohesion and alignment to the Government agenda,” they stated.
