Mastercard in a deal with Equity Bank Uganda to foster financial inclusion

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 4 – Mastercard has entered into an agreement with Equity Bank Uganda to enhance financial inclusion.

Mastercard Community Pass Vice President of Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) said that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) is aimed at improving financial inclusion for digitally excluded individuals, communities, and businesses in Uganda.

“This partnership holds significant promise to drive digital visibility, financial inclusion, enable credit building opportunities and access to digital services for marginalized and underserved populations,” said Huba.

Huba added that the deal will enable consumers and small businesses to participate and thrive in the digital economy.

“The Mastercard Community Pass which offers a set of platform services will provide a commercially sustainable approach to scaling delivery of agriculture, micro-commerce, aid, and healthcare services,” he added.

Equity Bank Executive Director of Public Sector and Social Investments Elizabeth Mwerinde stated that the Mastercard Community Pass will build a Community Pass digital acceptance footprint in partnership with technology companies in Uganda.

“We are pleased to scale up our strategic partnership with Mastercard through this agreement which will provide an opportunity to collaborate on futuristic payment solutions for excluded communities,’’ said Mwerinde, adding that Equity Bank will also undertake a partnership with Innovation Village to facilitate implementation of the financial inclusion agenda through the Digital Economy Program.
