NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 9 – Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi has filed an application seeking anticipatory bail and to stop the police or any agent from arresting or harassing him and his family.
Matiangi through his lawyers led by Danstan Omari, Samson Nyaberi, Sandra Wambui says that some strange people appeared at his Karen residence seeking to carry out a search or arrest for unknown offence.
Omari stated that the police ought to had carried summons or warrant of arrest issued by the court to enable them conduct search or effect arrest.
Apparently they did not identify themselves as required by law and the administration of justice.
They said if Matiangi had committed the offence while in office as CS for interior and education, there is known procedure under the law in which the current government ought to follow
While briefing the press at Milimani Law Courts, the lawyers were joined by former presidential candidate George Wajackoyah who questioned the motive behind the move against the former CS.
The lawyers said that the inspector General of Police and Director of Ethics and Anti Corruption have confirmed that the individual who were seen at Matiang’is residence were not their officers.
