NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 7 – The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has announced the arrival of the third Messina’s full container vessel service registered vessel, MV Jolly Giada, that is set to offload 2,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) in the port of Mombasa.
According to KPA, 35 percent of the 2,000 TEUs offloaded from the vessel are bound for Dar- es Salaam as transshipment cargo.
The vessel is set to complete the offloading within the next twenty-four hours and then depart for its next destination.
“This marks the third vessel to dock at the port under Messina’s full container vessel services, introduced late last year, as the company previously operated Ro-ro vessels,” KPA stated on its X page.
KPA has further alerted that the port of Mombasa has over time experienced an accelerating rate of initial calls to the port, which signifies increased port connectivity.
“This is the sixth vessel making it’s first call to the port of Mombasa since the beginning of the year indicating increased port connectivity and enhanced business prospects,” KPA stated.
The Authority has further assured that the improved operational efficiency, such as the installation of new ship-to-shore gantry cranes at berth 16 of the port, has led to decreased ship waiting time.
