More males watch TV than females, CA survey

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 25 – Viewership of TV is higher amongst males than females, a latest survey by the Communications Authority of Kenya titled ‘Kenya Media Landscape Report’ reveals.

According to key demographic data released by the Authority, males dominated TV viewership, leading by 77 percent, while their female counterparts followed closely with 70 percent.

The survey also showed that those aged 15 to 17 have lower TV viewership, standing at 62 percent as they are likely to be in school, while those aged 18 years and older registered more than 70 percent.

Across the country, the Upper Eastern region led the pack of most TV viewers with 87 percent, while the North Eastern region registered the lowest number of viewers at 53 percent.

“Viewership of TV is highest in Upper Eastern at 87 percent followed by Central 83 percent and Nairobi 80 percent .The lowest incidence of TV Viewership is North Eastern with 53 percent,” the report wrote. 

The survey indicated that free-to-air (FTA) TV enjoys a notably broader viewership audience as compared to pay TV.

However, the reach of pay TV is slightly higher among individuals aged 18 to 24 years.
