NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 1 – A section of Nairobi County MCAs allied to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) are now calling on the party to take disciplinary action against the office of the minority leader and that of minority whip, for peddling false allegations against Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
The allegations were made by Minority leader Anthony Kiragu and Minority Whip Mark Mugambi, when they claimed that the Governor facilitated the Azimio la Umoja Kamukunji rally that took place last week, through offering financial assistance and provide a venue for planning the meeting.
Following the remarks, the pro-Sakaja ward representatives led by Clement Kamaru (Kahawa West), Jeremiah Themendu (Kayole central) and James Kariuki (Ruai) demanded that the two substantiates their allegations, or else resign from their positions.
“We gave them enough time to table their evidence but they have failed to do so. We feel that this surmounts to gross violation of the UDA code of conduct,” Kamaru stated.
The members through a letter want the party to discipline the members, accusing them of witch-hunt and character assassination of the city Governor.
“We ask for an immediate response this matter,” the members stated.
Ruai Ward representative asked the UDA members in the assembly to come together and support the Governor in delivering his mandate.
“Allow the Governor to work, our people want to see projects and not bickering,” he said.
On his part, Kayole’s Themendu said side shows will not help their electorates and urged his counterparts to cease petty politics.
Themendu said it’s unfortunate to have members of UDA fighting the Governor yet they are in the same party, instead of assisting him actualize his agenda.
“We can’t allow ourselves to go back to the infighting’s which derailed city developments in the last regime. Give the Governor ample time to work for Nairobi residents,” Themendu said.
