NCBA expands SME support with expanded strategic development programme
NCBA Group Director of Retail Banking Dennis Njau said the programme is a strategic investment in strengthening SME capacity.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 3 – NCBA Bank says it is strengthening its support for Kenya’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through its Enterprise Development Programme, designed to equip businesses with the skills and networks needed to scale sustainably.

This year, 24 NCBA SME customers from sectors including manufacturing, retail, agribusiness, construction, logistics, and professional services completed the 16-week programme delivered in partnership with Strathmore Business School.

The initiative blends academic training with hands-on coaching in financial management, operations, marketing, innovation, leadership, and digital transformation.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, NCBA Group Director of Retail Banking Dennis Njau said the programme is a strategic investment in strengthening SME capacity.

“This programme gives our customers the practical knowledge, confidence, and partnerships they need to take bold steps in their businesses,” he said. “NCBA remains committed to walking this journey with them through capacity building and strong financial solutions.”

NCBA has complemented the training with a broader ecosystem of SME support, leveraging partnerships with the Africa Guarantee Fund, AFAWA, Water.Org, and Proparco. The bank says these collaborations help mitigate credit risk, expand access to financing, and back high-impact areas such as women-led enterprises, climate resilience, and water and sanitation initiatives.

By pairing structured capacity-building with tailored financial solutions, NCBA says it aims to tap into a sector that remains central to Kenya’s GDP and employment.

The Enterprise Development Programme has so far benefited more than 300 NCBA customers, offering peer learning, market insights, and networking opportunities that are critical for business growth.

NCBA continues to invite eligible SME customers to join future cohorts. Businesses must have operated for at least two years, employ a minimum of three staff, and post an annual turnover of at least Sh3 million.
