NAIROBI, Kenya Jan 31 – At least 19 students were injured on Saturday morning after a school van belonging to Mahehe Friends Academy was involved in a road accident along Charity Road in Endarasha, Kieni West, Nyeri County.
Witnesses reported that the van lost control before rolling and landing in a ditch.
The impact left the vehicle badly damaged, with the front section smashed, the windscreen shattered, and several seats dislodged.
Some pupils were trapped inside, sustaining injuries of varying severity.
Police confirmed that no deaths were reported, and the injured students were rushed to Endarasha Health Centre for urgent medical attention.
Rescue operations were swiftly mounted, involving more than six ambulances, emergency response teams, and local residents.
The Kenya Red Cross verified the incident, stating the van veered off the road and overturned.
Authorities stressed that rescue and response operations were prompt.
The accident has reignited concerns over road safety and the transportation of schoolchildren in the area.
