NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 9 – The police is seeking more time to hold 10 suspects involved in the Safaricom fuliza fraud to enable investigations to be completed.
The suspects according to the preliminary investigations are said to have fraudulently obtained money from National Commercial Bank of Africa ( NCBA) and Safaricom customers.
The lawyers appearing for the 10 suspects Ham Lagat and Felix Kiprono told trial magistrate Robinson Ondieki that the prosecution has not adduced compelling reasons to hold suspects.
It has only been disclosed to the court the investigating officers have only recovered 3000 safaricom sim cards ,10 laptops and motor vehicles,the officers do not need the presence of the suspects to carry out forensic examination.
The suspects Isaak kipkemoi, Gideon Rono, Moses Rono, Collins Kipyegon, Maxwell Njamba, Edwin Kipkorir, Gideon Gitahi, Brenda Chepng’eno and Linda Cheprono are said to have been arrested in Nakuru on 8th February 2023.
The court will make a rulling on whether to grant custodial orders requested by the DCI on Monday 13th February 2023
